Basic Questions
A single simple model underpins short drama apps. You stream vertical episodes that are very short. The first few come free. Beyond those, episodes cost coins or a pass. Most of the confusion begins with that split. The five answers below are a good starting point.
What exactly is a short drama app?
It delivers vertical video that is designed for phones. Every series arrives as trending short dramas many tiny episodes. Leading the pack are ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax and My Drama. The storylines favor billionaires, revenge and identity reveals. Werewolf romances likewise have broad popularity. The format started in China as duanju.
How long is each episode?
One to two minutes is typical for most. Western productions often go for runtimes of 60 to 100 seconds. A series usually has 20 to 100 episodes. ReelShort lists 90 installments for Married at First Sight. Double Life, a ReelShort hit, lists 60. A full series can run as long as a movie.
Why do episodes stop at cliffhangers?
That is usually where free episodes end. ReelShort says its first 5 to 15 episodes are usually free. Industry coverage gives a figure of 8 to 10. The lock tends to arrive right at peak tension. That timing is the business model. Viewers also rank it among their top complaints.
Who owns ReelShort, DramaBox and My Drama?
ReelShort belongs to Crazy Maple Studio based in Sunnyvale, California. That studio is backed by China’s COL Group. Singapore’s StoryMatrix, part of Beijing Dianzhong Technology, operates DramaBox. My Drama is a Holywater app, and Holywater was founded in Kyiv in 2020. October 2025 is when Fox Entertainment acquired an equity stake. ReelShort launched in 2022, DramaBox in 2023.
Is it possible to watch in a browser or on TV?
Yes, with limits. ReelShort’s website lets you sign in through Google, Facebook, Apple, TikTok or email. The app and the site share your progress. Free unlocks work only in the app. My Drama is available on Apple TV via its own app. We did not find a verified ReelShort TV app.
Pricing
Money is the topic people ask about most. The figures show US App Store prices as of September 2026. These prices vary by country, platform and promotion. Treat every number as a rough guide. Before anything else, always check the price screen. Here is what the listings show.
Is ReelShort free to use?
Partly, and the free part is genuinely free. Anyone searching «is reel short free» or «is reel short app free» is after the catch. You get the opening episodes free. It costs nothing to download. Coins or a VIP pass unlock the later ones. Free coins come from ads and check-ins.
How do coins work?
The currency that unlocks episodes is coins. An episode runs about 60 coins, according to ReelShort’s blog. The smallest pack costs roughly $4.99 for 500 coins. Bonus coins are added to bigger packs. You earn 100+ coins from a 7-day check-in streak. Watching one rewarded ad unlocks two episodes.
Do coins ever expire?
That depends on the app. According to ReelShort, free reward coins usually expire. Paid coins do not. My Drama takes a different approach. After 12 months of inactivity, its terms forfeit your coins. Stay active and spend reward coins first.
How much is a weekly pass?
In the US, the common price is about $19.99 a week. You will see it listed by ReelShort, ShortMax, DramaWave, GoodShort and My Drama. Cheaper tiers appear in some apps. ShortMax lists a $9.99 tier, and GoodShort’s pricing starts around $5.99. All these passes renew automatically. Four weeks you forget about cost four times as much.
Are there any monthly or yearly plans?
A few apps offer them. A yearly plan is listed on ReelShort’s blog at about $199.99. The monthly price differs between pages. That makes the figure unconfirmed. About $36.99 a month is what DramaWave lists. ShortMax shows only weekly passes in the US.
Can I watch without paying?
Yes, as long as you are patient. Begin with each series’ free first episodes. Rewarded ads open up more. Don’t break your daily check-in streak. ReelShort also operates official YouTube, TikTok and Dailymotion channels. Combining all four goes furthest.
Subscriptions and Cancelling
Until you stop them, weekly passes keep renewing. That surprises plenty of people. Once you know where to go, cancelling is quick. How you paid decides where you cancel. Store purchases are cancelled through the store. The company handles purchases made on its website.
Does deleting the app cancel my subscription?
No, and it is a common mistake. Apple states that removing an app does not end its subscription. The same goes for uninstalling, according to Google. My Drama’s terms include the same warning. Until you cancel, the pass renews. Cancel first, delete afterward.
How can I cancel on iPhone?
First, open the Settings app. Tap on your name at the top. Then go to Subscriptions. Select the drama app from the list. Tap Cancel and then confirm it. Act a day before the renewal date to be safe.
How do I cancel a subscription on Android?
To start, open the Google Play Store app. Then open your Subscriptions list. Select the drama app from that list. Tap Cancel, then follow the prompts. Remember that uninstalling cancels nothing. Recheck the list to confirm the change.
Can I cancel from inside the app?
Sometimes, but the store route is safer. In ShortMax’s terms, there is mention of an in-app option under About Subscription. They direct store buyers to App Store or Google Play. Only what Apple and Google billed is under their control. Website buyers should reach out to the company. Save a screenshot of every cancellation.
Why did I get charged after a free trial?
Trial wording can confuse. ShortMax’s «free trial» and «24 hours free» labels confused people, its developer acknowledges. Passes renew 24 hours before expiry, its terms say. The renewal comes at the same price. One day before any trial ends, cancel. Afterward, confirm that the store shows it cancelled.
Refunds and Money Back
How refunds work depends on who took your money. Google handles Play charges. Apple handles App Store charges. Website charges go through the companies. A refund is not guaranteed by any route. This table maps each path.
| Where the payment was made | How to cancel | Refund route | Things to watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone (App Store) | Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Cancel | Apple’s Report a Problem page | Removing the app does not cancel |
| Android (Google Play) | Google Play, Subscriptions, Cancel | Google within 48 hours, and after that the developer | Uninstalling does not cancel it |
| Website | The app company’s account page or support | The app company alone | Often non-refundable, as My Drama’s terms state |
How do I get a refund from Apple?
Apple’s Report a Problem page is the place to go. Log in using the Apple ID that was charged. Choose the charge, then explain briefly. Apple’s reply usually comes within 24 to 48 hours. The decision is Apple’s, not the app maker’s. Cancel the pass too, or it renews.
How does a Google Play refund work?
Timing is key here. Within 48 hours of purchase, Google says you may get a refund. Request it through Google Play directly. After that window closes, contact the developer. For ReelShort, the path is Profile, then Feedback. Act quickly when a renewal surprises you.
What about purchases made on a website?
Those purchases go through the app company. Apple and Google cannot help with those. Under My Drama’s terms, web purchases are non-refundable except where law requires. EU and UK users get a 14-day withdrawal right under its terms. Other companies’ rules are their own. Read the terms before paying online.
Can I get a refund for unused coins?
Usually not, and the terms say so. My Drama’s terms treat coin purchases as final. ShortMax turns down refunds unless its own fault makes a product unusable. With accidental buys, a store request may help. Buy the smallest coin pack until a series hooks you. Then mistakes cost you less.
Staying Safe from Look-Alike Apps

Name confusion is everywhere here. A misspelling can lead to little-known unrelated apps. Big brands get copied by some sites. A few downloads are unsafe. Using the real names protects your money. Real and fake are sorted out in these answers.
Is Real Short an actual app?
No, not that we were able to find. Real Short is simply ReelShort misspelled. That applies to «real short app», «realshot», «reel shot» and likely «shot shorts» too. The real name is one word, not two. New Leaf Publishing is the App Store seller. Make sure of that before downloading.
What exactly are ReelBox, DailyShort and GoldShort TV?
They are minor, unrelated apps. ReelBox, which people find via «reel box» or «reelbox tv», shows 50K+ Android installs. There is no link between it and ReelShort or DramaBox. DailyShort, often typed «daily short», has 100K+ installs. GoldShort TV is an app for Android TV that has 10K+ installs. Most searchers are likely looking for GoodShort.
Is ShortTV the same as ShortMax?
Very likely, but unconfirmed. SHORTTV LIMITED in Hong Kong is ShortMax’s legal entity. Its website sends visitors on to ShortTV’s site. Both debuted in September 2023. We could not find an official rename announcement. Unrelated apps also appear when you search «short tv» or «short max».
Are mod APKs and coin generators safe to use?
No, and not one is official. A mod APK is an altered app copy from outside official stores. One look-alike of DramaBox openly calls its download an unofficial modified version. Coin generators are not official either. What they do is something you cannot verify. Only use official stores and websites.
Why is ReelShort rated low on Trustpilot?
From 250 reviews, ReelShort’s Trustpilot page shows 1.3 out of 5. A frequent complaint is being charged after cancelling. Weekly auto-renewals often come up. Others complain about coin prices and denied refunds. Any review site reflects the people who chose to post. Treat it as a checklist, not a verdict.
